You may be asking yourself, "How can I make sure color blind people can still see my website?" The answer may seem difficult. You need to make sure to use contrasting colors on your website so that the text may be read. Yellow text on a white background, for instance, is difficult to read. The same goes for pale pink and yellow. Pale green background with a different shade of green also doesn't work very well. There are a lot of stylistic choices we may make when building our websites that actually make our websites unreadable.

Tips from the Pros:

  • Get a color wheel. Opposite colors are contrasting colors, and will show up pretty well.
  • White background with black text is a standard that always works.
  • For the blind, use alt text in your image tags to describe your photos.
  • Do not use photos of words if possible.
  • Do not write text that's not intended to be read.

If you follow these very simple guidelines, you should end up with a website that is readable by everyone. It might not look fantastic, though. If you want a professionally designed website, that still follows the generally accepted guidelines for Section 508 compatibility, contact us to see how Mobile Penguins can help you.
